The error 099 its a problem with the lenses 55mm.
I have one with a 28-300 mm lens, had it for 2 years, and no problem. I think what you’re doing is setting it to automatic & the camera when you hear it beep it means it’s autofocusing lenght & light and it senses that the flash is not needed. But if you keep trying to force the flash, it will eventually mess up? There is a way to have it pop up without the auto sensor but I’ll let you figure that out genius.
dont hold down the flash button when hitting the capture button or you will have this problem who told you to hold down the flash button it is not needed
My camera had the same problem, and I was able to lift it with my finger, then the flash stoped working completely…not a major problem because I have a good speedlite external, but still a pain. Can the flash be turned completely off?
sucks to be you, mine works just fine :)
ah that stinks, but i suppose you can go to a camera shop and save time if thats the concern :)
Yeah mine did that to. The hinge wouldn’t lock in correctly from the flash. After manually pulling it out and closing it the problem went away…good as new :o)
they all do that —dont worry about it–when you hear it click ,lift up on the flash——way easyer than sending it in for service
Ouch! Something wrong with the mirror
I love my canon rebel XTi DSLR =D
Yes, Jeff. It was repaired under warranty. They replaced the pop-up flash assembly when they found that the mechanical hook which keeps the flash pulled down was worn off. It worked fine after that. I, anyway, am using an external flash that I purchased right after issue resolution.
Thanks for your comments.
I had to send the unit several times for several issues. The Canon, did fix this issue, under warranty, by replacing the flash assembly. I agree their service is good but while reporting this issue, one of the tech rep gave me a hard time and didn’t believe that I’m telling the truth. I had to post this video for that jerk. If you notice, the video was posted in Feb 08. I guess, it’s time to post another.
I have exactly the same problem.. Did you able to fix your’s.
I don’t know about deteriorating quality issues with canon products. The are noted for high quality and good service. I have to give the benifit of a doubt to Canon on this one. We don’t have anything to go on but what you say. I’m sure your problem will be resolved, if not, THEN is the time to start a campaign against them.
That is very unfortunate. I haven’t had any problems with mine.
mine does that now after i dropped it like 4 times.. everytime you want to use the flash, u help the camera by pulling theflash up
That’s probably not even a warranty issue, they’ll claim you have spilt something on the flash which makes it sticky.
Actually it’s not even an issue at all, if it doesn’t pop up automatically, just use your hand and pry it up. Same thing has happened to mine after I spilt a beer on it :P
that sucks, i’ve had mine over a year now and havent had a problem *knock on wood*
When I purchased my XTI I had the same problem. The store (Camera Works) in Durham NC, looked at it and found a small piece of packing material was stuck in the hotshoe rail making the camera think that there was a external flash unit on the camera. They fixed it in three minutes and I have never had a problem with my camera.
Erm, I did the same thing and the flash popped up without problems. It’s a camera fault.
I noticed this was a common issue for the 400d/XTi (even though I never had this problem), but it’s best to get a speedlite for it really. The built-in flash just doesn’t do justice.
one other comment - you should not be using the pop-up flash on a DSLR as your primary flash. It works fine in a pinch - but you should always have a top or lens mount flash for nearly all pic conditions. Using full auto AND the pop-up flash on a DSLR is just…..so….sad. Sorry.
ZOOM over this owner - buy a point and shoot. Sorry the DSLR world is not for you.
I think so too.
anyone who can’t use full manual is a fucking retard…. end of story… and i probally just got a dud one :(
