How to import a video on Canon camera to my Macbook?

I have a Canon camera and have had no problems importing pictures or videos in the past, but all of a sudden there is one avi on my camera that will not import.
I have tried importing it through image capture already, but that isn’t working either.
Any further hints?

I would take the memory card out of the camera and use a card reader connected to the MacBook.

I would download and install Flip4Mac
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/flip4macwindowsmediacomponentsforquicktime.html
if all I want to is watch the video… but if I want to edit the video (with iMovie or FinaCut), I would download and install MPEG StreamClip
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
and convert that AVI file to MOV or MP4 format then drag that converted file to the capture area (of iMovie or FinalCut).

“Image Capture” is for stills - not video.
